Avalanche warning for region Indre Fjordane Sunday 21.03.2021

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Locally unstable conditions. A skier or a snow mobile may trigger avalanches in the fresh wind slabs, while persistent weak layers deeper in the snow in general is hard to trigger.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Saturday 20. March 2021

Vedvarande svake lag frå kuldeperioda i januar/februar kan framleis vere eit problem nokre stadar over ca 1300 moh.

Mountain weather

Saturday 20. March 2021

10 mm precipitation, up to 20 mm in the most exposed areas. Breeze from southwest, changing to fresh breeze from the west during the evening. -4 °C to -1 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Sunday 21. March 2021

4 mm precipitation, up to 10 mm in the most exposed areas. Strong breeze from northwest, changing to breeze from the west during the afternoon. -10 °C to -4 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
